Thanks for the congratulations, Leah! I have "Artisan Bread..." and I like it, though I go through phases of using it - with my family it's laughable to make just one batch, so I always double it - then it takes up a lot of fridge space, so sometimes it's infeasible. I've made baguettes and other lean breads that taste good, it's the thin/crispy crust I can't quite replicate (even with a baking stone and steam pan). I'm not giving up on lean breads, just that one type of crust! :-) Good luck with your laundry soap! :-)

I've been reading and loving and putting into practice the book Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day. That could be the answer to your baguette problem. Perhaps not strictly authentic, but certainly as delicious.
Also, I've been very excited to try making my own laundry soap. I bought the ingredients (very reasonable!), but have yet to try it. If it works, it's going to be very economical!
Oh, and congratulations on your new little one! :)

Good job with the haircut! Knox got a trim around the ears and collar while the scissors were out to give Ilse another bob. I gave up on growing her hair out just yet; it's still fine and thin and it looks better in a bob.

I would like to take my fresh air and at least go for a walk by myself, but I don't like to go out by myself and walk around the neighborhood in the dark, and that's when I'd have to go most of the year if I left the kids home with Michael. I don't have a good place to set it up really, I set it on a bench to the side of the treadmill, and sort of look sideways at it. :-) I don't always need to WATCH the TV, an occasional glance might be all I want, so long as I can hear it.

That right there is almost incentive for exercising inside instead of outside like I have been doing. However, I've been enjoying the fresh air in the morning too much and I don't have a good place to set up the laptop by the treadmill.

Aww, Elly, cherish these days because before you know it they'll be gone...right? Don't blink or your kids will be all grown up and big. Then you blink. But when you open your eyes they are still there, crying and making messes.

In all seriousness, some days are just about keeping them alive. If you accomplish that much, then you've put in a good day's work. A mother's work is so trivial, mundane and annoying and the people we are caring for are so tiny. But the job is huge and the results are eternal. My prayer for mothers is that God would strengthen us for the humble, mighty tasks we face every day.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you, may the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

I can't believe it's the end of August already! We were at the Evans's house last week and all the kids were running around the yard, laughing and generally making noise. "What are we going to do when the weather gets colder!?" I wondered. Summer seemed to last so much longer when we were the kids who could go outside virtually ALL DAY!

Uh, yep. Been there, done that. Except I just saved myself all that trouble and decided not to go. Mine are too little to care that much. Instead we put a couple gallons of water in the little kiddie pool and they splashed around in the comfort of their own backyard.
