Just remember – We all think we’re normal, and we’re [...] We went and visited my grandmother today, since we’ll be out of town next week, so she won’t get her Wednesday visit from us, like she usually does. The visit went well and Grandma was very happy to see us as usual. It’s so sad to see her vitality starting to fade. Her mind works slower [...] While I was living with my grandmother for a year I had the opportunity to think long and hard about where and whom I wanted to be when I reach my autumn years. I wrote down a long list of Dos and Don’ts, some of which were directly demonstrated (or not) by my grandmother, but some of which I came up with little outside inspiration. I want to write them in caligraphy and hang them somewhere where I can read them from time and where I CAN’T misplace them. But, in the meantime, since my sister-in-law, Emeth, said that she puts things on the internet that she doesn’t want to lose, I thought perhaps I’d post them – and maybe get even more suggestions for added dos and don’ts!\par Things to Remember \par (When I’m Old) \par PLEASE \par
It’s so easy to take ourselves too seriously. I was doing a thought experiment today in the shower (a fertile time for my imagination). I was thinking about how we will all be so easily forgotten. First I thought about people in history. How many names are even remembered, let alone remembered with any attached details, [...] My mother told me once that\’c3\’82\’c2\~the things that you worry about seldom happen – and the disasters that do happen are things you hadn’t even thought about! So why worry in the [...] Geste at Home #5:\par \par I read Cheaper by the Dozen recently and enjoyed it – it wasn’t quite as funny as I had been expecting it to be (I confess, I found the father a little irritating), but all of the large family logistics were quite interesting and some of the stories are hilarious! I particularly liked this section where [...] That’s the refrain going on next to me on the TV. I have to say, I always had a strong affection for Winnie the Pooh and am glad that Judah wanted to watch it this afternoon while I finished up the cards and gifts for the graduation this evening. Yes, I made cards for the graduation. [...] Oh, to have read this article during my first year of marriage – bitterness is such a sickening disease. Praise God for for the sanctifying influence of marriage! [...] I went through the pile of papers on my counter this afternoon, which included at least 6 invitations to graduations and weddings. When I was done I had a large pile of envelopes, second envelopes and those little tissue paper inserts people stick into their invitations. No offense to anybody reading this whose invitation made up [...] Mystie recommended Mary Pride’s Complete Guide to Getting Started in Homeschooling because of the section of the book devoted to explaining several home schooling methods (at least 4 of which I’d never heard of before). The paragraph at the beginning of the chapter on Classical Education & Great Books by Fritz Hinrichs caught my attention:\par Most anyone [...] World had an article about the mixed responses to the new movie “The Da Vinci Code” in its most recent issue. I’m pretty well certain that I don’t want to contribute $8 to the producers of a blasphemous film – but should I perhaps feel obligated to get it out of the library and read it [...] It’s 84 degrees outside today! That’s hot for around here it seems like – especially in early May! We’ve been avoiding moving too much, and this afternoon we went to two air-conditioned places – the library and Fred Meyer. It’s much cooler down here in the basement, but there’s not too much normal housework type stuff [...] I’ve been thinking about this Universal Curriculum thing… I intended it to be a gradual thing, but still as I ponder what else I would put in a “life textbook” for my kids I am rather disappointed with how few things come to mind! It seems I haven’t been learning very much [...] I’m reading the Scarlett Letter with Alice right now, and it’s taken a good long time to even get around to mentioning Hester Pryne. But as I read the lengthy descriptions of non-essential personnel at\’c3\’82\’c2\~ Custom House (port tax office) and the dulling effect of government employment on the author, this sentence caught my eye:\par It was [...] I was perusing Lauren Winner’s seldom updated blog today and came upon somebody asking her to write a scathing response to this article. So, naturally, I clicked over to that article and read it to see what was so objectionable. Well, as someone who got married at 19, I wasn’t exactly in the target audience, and [...] I got the zipper in my skirt! Not the best zipper I’ve ever done… just like last time. But it’s in and I’m going to let it be and take a break from sewing to blog a little!\par Geste at Home #2:\par Last night I watched Revenge of the Sith on DVD while Michael was out at a meeting. I’m working on a Christmas present for a family member so I don’t feel too bad sitting and watching a movie while I do it. Mystie suggested a game of tag oriented toward home management, the goal\’c3\’82\’c2\~being to share ideas or at least get a feel for how others manage their homes. \’c3\’82\’c2\~Her first question was:\par
\par I would make a link that carried you directly to the post wherein this was asked… but I don’t know how. Sorry. \par In theory I would start making dinner in tidy kitchen which I had been maintaining all day. As I cooked, I would clean up as I went along, so that by the time dinner was served, the only dishes remaining would be the dishes on the table and the serving/final cooking dishes. Then, after dinner, served promptly on time, of course\’c3\’82\’c2\~(when Michael gets home), we Continue reading My Evening Routine? |
