Tried a New Hairdo Looking [...] During devotions, Michael asked Judah if he knew what cruel meant. Judah said, “Yeah, liked it’d be nice if it cooled down.” “No, not ‘cool:’ cruel.” After which followed several attempts on the boys’ part to imitate their dad in saying “cruel.” Finally, Michael asked again if they knew what “cruel” meant and Judah replied, “No, I don’t know [...] [...] Monica lost one of her new shoes today. I took the kids for a walk, and thought to myself, “I shoudn’t put Monica’s new shoes on.. she kicks them off and I’d hate to lose one of them.” But it was coldish outside, so I did it anyway. And sure enough, on the way home, when [...] When I was making bread a few weeks ago I gave each of the boys about a 1 inch ball of dough to play with; primarily for Judah’s benefit, who really, really, really loves to roll real dough out with a rolling pin. He proceeded to get the playdough rolling pins (actual rolling pins, used for [...] My clumsy-looking baby sleepsack and matching hat (my first true ribbon [...] Back in January, I gave Judah a buzz. He was quite enthused about his haircut, telling everybody about it and apparently attributing all sorts of wonderful benefits to it:\par [...] Lately Ezra has taken to reenacting the wrongs that have been done to him. One example is how, when he and Judah were “fighting” the other night as we prepared them for bed, Judah shoved him back, resulting in Ezra hitting the floor. Michael was there, so he administered corrective language, and supervised the mandatory apology [...] Judah’s at an age when he’s starting to grapple with concepts like love – what is it, how is it formed, to whom is it owed, etc. The other day, as I was performing a bathroom service for him he chose to bestow his thoughts upon me. I just made\’c3\’82\’c2\~listening noises, so I won’t write them [...] Yes, yet another self-congratulatory post by Elaine. (as Michael would say) But, yet again, I have accomplished a task that has been on mental and paper to-do lists for way too many years. I recaulked behind the kitchen sink. That’s right. Using a combination of tools from a pathetic plastic de-caulking tool I bought at Fred [...] Yesterday I accomplished a task that had been on my mental (and sometimes paper) to-do lists for about 4 years: I fixed the wallpaper in the nursery. No, I’m not talking about floor to ceiling wall paper, I’m talking about a simple, classic pooh wallpaper border, about waist-high around the room. No ladder work required. See, [...] Yes! I am excited to be having a baby girl! After all, a baby girl is something new and different. I’m a little nervous as well – I’ve done (or, I should say “am doing”) boys… I don’t know what to expect from a girl. (From a boy you expect the unexpected – as when Judah [...] Well, well, well. I guess I’ve been tagged twice (by Kerri \’c3\’82\’c2\~and Rachel)for the same thing: i.e. 7 random things about my humble self. I can probably do that. After all, life is very random sometimes.\par We had a busy weekend, as is usual. Michael got home from Chicago (he was gone for two nights)\’c3\’82\’c2\~late Friday night. On Saturday he was home in the morning, then Rose watched the boys while we went to a wedding for one of his coworkers. The ceremony was fairly normal except for the absence of a [...] I feel like I need to at least briefly record recent events, for posterity (i.e. so that I can look back in a year and see what was going on now). I don’t have time to write much, so I’ll use bullets points and you can just imagine all of the connecting phrases, paragraphs, -ly sentence [...] Yesteday I started singing a song as we were finishing dinner. Remembering that I’ve instructed Judah “sing at the table, whistle in bed, and the devil will get you before your dead” I stopped and said, “Oh, Mommy’s not supposed to sing at the table, is she!” Or something like that. But then Judah asked me [...] As I was going through the drive-through Dutch Brother’s Coffee place in Oregon City, I saw a local mailman with the traditional mail bag over his shoulder, and the traditional mailman uniform walk up to the Dutch Bros. to deliver a letter. He came in behind two people who’d been standing in line for the previous [...] Michael’s busy time is January through April 15 (and the first half of October). Mine tends to be right now… April 16 though mid-July. That’s because after the deprivations of tax season, everything seems to be in fast-forward, but also because this is the time of year for memorial services (hopefully no more of those any [...] I feel like my blog has been kind of lifeless lately. I’d like to write deep thoughts from time to time, and yet my days are largely made up of the mundane thoughts that are so unimportant, yet so necessary (i.e. Is there milk in the refrigerator? How long has that sippy cup been sitting out? [...] |
