My first real bed. My parents moved me into it when I was a toddler, and I’ve slept in it most of my life (except for a couple brief stints in bunkbeds). When we married, the bed came with me. Same bed, same mattress. Purchased before I was born. Old mattress.

So There!

Today, as we listened to some cello concertos during lunch I asked, “What instrument is this?” Judah responded, “The Cello.” (thank the Little Einsteins – I certainly couldn’t have told him that!)

I asked, “who wrote this music?” They weren’t sure, so I told them, “Johann Sebastian Bach.” (Judah at once informed me that this was what [...]

Hive Free Morning!

For those of you who commented (on facebook) and prayed, thank you! Monica woke up this morning without an itchy bump to be seen and seems to be feeling fine. She slept in really late, which is kind of odd, but other than that, she seems to be normal. Praise God!

Mother's Preoccupation

Monica got hives last week. Yes, I know, it’s an icky topic. I especially think that hives are icky;  just looking at them makes me feel slightly sick to my stomach and itchy all over. But, indeed, she did get a terrible case of hives last Wednesday morning, which continued until Friday and only stopped, [...]

Better than Galaxy-Quest..

I just read this post at the Femina blog: An Uplifting Memory.  The post itself and the reader’s comments had me almost hyperventilating! Good to know that all of one’s day-to-day small child related disasters are eventually a source of great entertainment – and that eventually one is OUT of that mode of life!

(The title [...]

Announcement!

Did you see that my blog is all prettied up? Well, if you did, you can thank my brother, Ben and his wife, Emeth, who took it upon themselves to spend much of yesterday afternoon updating my blog. It feels nice to have a fresh new face on the blog. And perhaps I’ll be motivated to [...]

Looking for Trouble

Cruel

During devotions, Michael asked Judah if he knew what cruel meant. Judah said, “Yeah, liked it’d be nice if it cooled down.” “No, not ‘cool:’ cruel.”

After which followed several attempts on the boys’ part to imitate their dad in saying “cruel.” Finally, Michael asked again if they knew what “cruel” meant and Judah replied, “No, I don’t [...]

In The Morning Sunshine!

Little Betty Blue

Monica lost one of her new shoes today. I took the kids for a walk, and thought to myself, “I shoudn’t put Monica’s new shoes on.. she kicks them off and I’d hate to lose one of them.” But it was coldish outside, so I did it anyway. And sure enough, on the way home, [...]

Bread Dough

When I was making bread a few weeks ago I gave each of the boys about a 1 inch ball of dough to play with; primarily for Judah’s benefit, who really, really, really loves to roll real dough out with a rolling pin. He proceeded to get the playdough rolling pins (actual rolling pins, used [...]

Judah Quote

Back in January, I gave Judah a buzz. He was quite enthused about his haircut, telling everybody about it and apparently attributing all sorts of wonderful benefits to it:\par
\par
Judah: “I’m really happy!”\par
\par
Me: “Oh yeah?”\par
\par
Judah: “Yeah, I’m obeying…. from that haircut!”

Re-enactments

Lately Ezra has taken to reenacting the wrongs that have been done to him. One example is how, when he and Judah were “fighting” the other night as we prepared them for bed, Judah shoved him back, resulting in Ezra hitting the floor. Michael was there, so he administered corrective language, and supervised the mandatory [...]

Judah’s Thoughts

Judah’s at an age when he’s starting to grapple with concepts like love – what is it, how is it formed, to whom is it owed, etc. The other day, as I was performing a bathroom service for him he chose to bestow his thoughts upon me. I just made\’c3\’82\’c2\~listening noises, so I won’t write [...]

I finally did it (II) !

Yes, yet another self-congratulatory post by Elaine. (as Michael would say) But, yet again, I have accomplished a task that has been on mental and paper to-do lists for way too many years. I recaulked behind the kitchen sink. That’s right. Using a combination of tools from a pathetic plastic de-caulking tool I bought at [...]

I finally did it!

Yesterday I accomplished a task that had been on my mental (and sometimes paper) to-do lists for about 4 years: I fixed the wallpaper in the nursery. No, I’m not talking about floor to ceiling wall paper, I’m talking about a simple, classic pooh wallpaper border, about waist-high around the room. No ladder work required. [...]

Baby Girl

Yes! I am excited to be having a baby girl! After all, a baby girl is something new and different. I’m a little nervous as well – I’ve done (or, I should say “am doing”) boys… I don’t know what to expect from a girl. (From a boy you expect the unexpected – as when [...]

Tag, You’re It

Well, well, well. I guess I’ve been tagged twice (by Kerri \’c3\’82\’c2\~and Rachel)for the same thing: i.e. 7 random things about my humble self. I can probably do that. After all, life is very random sometimes.\par
