Little Betty Blue

Monica lost one of her new shoes today. I took the kids for a walk, and thought to myself, “I shoudn’t put Monica’s new shoes on.. she kicks them off and I’d hate to lose one of them.” But it was coldish outside, so I did it anyway. And sure enough, on the way home, when we were closer to home than to our furthest point on our walk, I finally noticed that one little pink-tighted foot was shoeless.\par

I couldn’t turn around and go back – the boys had been taking turns walking and were tired of it. So we continued on home.\par

But, as I said, it was a new shoe, and I couldn’t just leave it by the road somewhere, so I immediately loaded the kids in the van and drove off to look for it. We found it! One wonders what the lady out walking her dog, whom I passed on my way, thought when she saw me slowly drive by, then stop the car, get out and run back about 50 feet, pick up the little slipper, get back in the car and drive off. If I could’ve turned around easily, I would’ve driven back the way I had come so that I could see her expression as I drove by on the way back!
