Lots of Foot Traffic

We’ve been getting a lot of foot traffic lately! Yesterday evening, after dark, a youngish environmentalist showed up on my doorstep asking for donations. Yeah, right. I told Michael he would’ve been proud of me for how firm I was. No, I didn’t yell and wasn’t impolite, just very… firm. But he did ask me what I did believe in, and I put him off saying that I was making dinner and later it occurred to me that perhaps the thing to do would be to have invited him in for dinner so that I could tell him what I believed. (Rose was there so I wouldn’t have been inviting a stranger into the house when I was completely alone or anything) But by then he was gone. :-( \par

Today we had another knock on the door, this time from a well-kept\’c2\~middle-aged man in a Harley Davidson leather jacket, who said, “Hi, this is going to sound like a really wierd question, but did this house used to have a garage down there (pointing in the direction of the garage-turned-storeroom)?” I told him it did, and he explained that he’d once seen a something-Pontiac-something here or at the next-door neighbors, he couldn’t remember where and was looking for it.\’c2\~ I didn’t know anything about that, but remembering that the neighbor lady is looking to sell an ancient yellow-truck, asked if it was a truck. He gave a little laugh and explained that it was an old muscle-car. “Oh!” I said. I had seen the neighbor driving around a bright orange old car that men get so excited about, so I told the guy that and directed him next door. He seemed\’c2\~very excited, thanked me, and practically ran down the steps to continue his search. Funny. I’ll have to ask the neighbor lady how that turned out next time she walks by to collect her mail!
