Heartbeat

I had my first prenatal appointment yesterday. I heard the baby’s heartbeat! It was 160, which, according to old wives’ tales should indicate a girl (or so my grandmother would surely have told me!) Anyway, it’s always a relief to me to hear the heartbeat – I always have this irrational fear that I’m not actually pregnant and will have to admit to a huge mistake to everybody I know… until I hear the heartbeat.\par

When I told Judah that I was leaving to go the appointment he asked why, and I told him it was to check up on the baby. He asked, “Oh, are you going to get the baby?”

  • Yay! It’s pretty funny, my boys both had 160′s heartbeats and now Ilse is consistently in the 130′s. :)

  • It has always proven true for me. (about the heartbeat.) It seems like the church is due for a batch of girls after all those boys. :) \par

  • It’s always exciting to hear the heartbeat! Funny thing, I’m always heard the opposite about the heartbeat. Higher heartbeat, boy. Lower heartbeat, girl. \par
Aletheia was consistently around 143 and this baby is usually 140. So we’ll see eventually. :-)

  • Hearing the heartbeat of my babies always made MY heart leap for joy! :-) \par
Then when I got to hear my grandson’s heartbeat……well I was beyond thrilled!\par
I get a kick out the confusion of little ones regarding babies and their arrivals. I’m mean, you’re checking on the baby, after all……right? Right? Well then.

  • This is late, but oh well. I had my first prenatal appointment at 10 weeks on November 6th and saw the baby and heartbeat for the first time. Especially having never been pregnant before, I was quite fearful that I had had a false positive pregnancy test, wasn’t actually pregnant, and was going to have to be writing a lot of letters and making a lot of phone calls. It was such a relief and joy to discover the baby was real!
