Harvest Blessings..

I brought in 5 tomatoes and 1 cucumber from my garden this week. This would be really good, except that I suspect that the cucumber was my last from my one cucumber plant… it was the third cucumber. The tomatoes also are just finally getting ripe, and I doubt there will be many more before the first frost. Gardening is not my forte. Some of it seems to be bad luck – for some reason, few of the seeds I ever plant sprout. But most of it is poor method. I water erratically, seldom or never fertilize, and know next to nothing about garden husbandry issues\’c3\’82\’c2\~like how to deal with pests, ants, etc. But every year I think, “next year I’ll do better…” And every year there’s some improvement, so maybe eventually I’ll actually have cut flowers to bring inside and decorate the house, a king’s portion of tomatoes, lots of cucumbers, and enough basil to make at least 1 batch of pesto!! It might take 10 years though, at the rate I’m going.\par

Nope, gardening is no my strong suit. And next spring might not be the best time to try major cultivating experiments. After all, I’ll be 8 months pregnant by the middle of April! And after our next baby is born somewhere around May 13, I doubt there’ll be much fertilizing and watering going on. But I’ll be involved in a different type of nurturing, then. One that I’m hopefully much better at!

I am right there with you when it comes to gardening girl! I planted about 15 bean plants this spring, all excited for our bountiful harvest! More is better right? Nope…found out that it wasn’t. Think I planted the bushes too close together and too many in a small space. I think we enjoyed green beans for dinner 4-5 times…enough for one serving each. I was hoping for much more! Oh well…you learn as you go I guess!

  • Yay, babies, yay! Congratulations!!!!! Blessings from the Walker fam!
