I feel like I need to at least briefly record recent events, for posterity (i.e. so that I can look back in a year and see what was going on now). I don’t have time to write much, so I’ll use bullets points and you can just imagine all of the connecting phrases, paragraphs, -ly sentence openers, etc.\par

- Presentation on her 1 year 4 month long trip to Uganda to tutor missionary children by Liz Prentice for Honeycomb kids, hosted at my house on August 24th. Good attendance, good time. The kids loved the pictures of African animals, and felt sorry for people who eat rice 3 times a day. One wanted to know why we didn’t send them other kinds of food. Judah got into an argument with an older girl on whether or not they wear pants in Uganda. Men do, women don’t.
- My parents came to stay with us Thursday and Friday night August 30-31. Dad hung the cabinet door in my kitchen that’s been off for 2 months and solved a plumbing problem for me (Thanks Dad!!). Michael was scheduled to take Friday off, but ended up working. He showed up late to Oktoberfest Friday evening, after the rest of us were there. The Fest was fun, Judah went on the hay-ride 3 times, Ezra once. Ezra thought it was a hazardous activity. The boys played most of the time with large metal trucks, pumctuated by trips to the chip table,\’c3\’82\’c2\~and Judah asked me to dance in the Grand Marche, completely without prompting.
- My mom, dad, sister and sister’s friend, Michael and I all went to see the Rembrandt exhibit at the Portland Art Museum. Was a good thing to do. Felt like I didn’t appreciate it as much as perhaps I should have. Not an art person.
- Michael played football after church on Sunday. Sprained thumb and is sore.
- Went to Michael’s parents for a barbecue on Labor Day. Lot of people there, had a nice time. Food was, as usual, excellent. Ate too much. Had a Corona with a lime wedge in it. VERY good. Played Dutch Blitz with Alice, Rose, and Esther.
- This week we’re pretending that it’s tax season again. Michael leaving early, working late.\’c3\’82\’c2\~He wishes the\’c3\’82\’c2\~Marriage Seminar at our church that we’re already signed up for was the weekend after this one, instead of this Friday and Saturday.\’c3\’82\’c2\~Will cook with a lot of mushrooms and perhaps olives this week!
- Weather cool and sometimes rainy. Very nice after hot weekend. Made bread yesterday. “Dark Sour Bread” (p. 101 of New Complete Book of Breads). Very good. Has beer, cornmeal, and 4 wheat products in it! Heavy, very dark. Reminds me of Boston Brown Bread. Can’t be made in a kitchen aid mixer, too heavy. Probably won’t make that often, but still will have to make again.\’c3\’82\’c2\~\’c3\’82\’c2\~
- Sister-in-law Rose keeping me company while Michael’s gone. Did dishes last night while I gave boys a bath and put them to bed. Then we watched an old Star Trek episode and an episode from Monarch of the Glen. Pleasant to have someone here in the evenings when Michael’s gone, who enjoys mushrooms, and who does dishes completely, and unasked!
