Memo To Self

September 5th, 2007

Do not, for any reason, initiate fingerpainting with a 3 1/2 year old and an almost 2 year old. It works like this:

Preparation (finding paints, paper, protective/old clothing, location set-up): 15 minutes

Opening paints and explaining rules: 3 minutes

Painting by boys, during which time they turn beautiful pots of paint into slimy mult-colored messes, and cover their clothing, fingers and some of their faces with paint, having no doubt a wonderful time, until they get tired of it: 5 minutes

Cleanup, including cleaning off paints, sponges, table, moving papers to a different location to dry, removing paint-covered clothes, washing off arms, faces, hands, legs, etc., then wiping off wall against which little appendages must’ve bumped: 20 minutes.

Sheer madness.

Now you see why the finger paints for KD and Sam never got opened! “Later” always seemed like a good time, which of course turned into “never”. Glad you tried it, though. I think I must have done it at least once with you and(possibly) Ben. I’m sure you remember??

I think I remember Sam playing with shaving cream. That was a mess. I never remember playing with finger paint. After how we ate spaghetti, I wouldn’t let us play with paint.
