Social Whirl

Not really. But this week has been more socially active for us than normal. On Monday and Tuesday I jaunted over to my friend’s the Barnards’ to watch their kids at 5:00, while they did the whole driving two cars to drop off/pick up\’c3\’82\’c2\~one of them, and then the boys and I stayed to dinner on Tuesday night, since Michael wasn’t going to be home for dinner. Judah and their oldest son, John, cracked us up with their exploits: they played “dress-up” with too-large suits from the RCC Exchange, completed their suave appearances with a variety of hats (from hard-hats, to fire-hats, to longish cloth bags, to floppy blue ones), and “guns” (anything long and thing). They told Katy that they were “guys in suits going around shooting with guns.” I personally witnessed two exhibitions of brotherly love: Judah explaining to John that he shouldn’t shoot Ezra because he wasn’t a bad guy and “I love him,” and John later explaining the same thing to Judah about his little brother Paul.\par

Also on Tuesday I believe I talked to my friend Lydia (currently hailing from Alabama) and my brother Ben on the phone making it a very social day.\par

Last night (Thursday), we had one of Michael’s co-worker’s with his fiance over for dinner. It was a very pleasant evening, and I hope that we see more of Craig and Melissa. It is rather an odd situation in some ways though: Craig and Melissa are each at least 8 years older than us, and yet they’re discussing wedding plans and how many kids they want, while we (25 years old) have been married for nearly 6 years and have two little boys! It was kind of the same last time we had one of Michael’s acquaintances from the business world over with his new wife. I wonder how long it will be before I don’t feel tremendously younger than most other people at the same stage in life? I made french bread for the dinner, from a recipe in The New Complete Book of Breads. I had to let it rise 3 times, and the times didn’t quite coordinate well with my other cooking projects (cake and rigatoni sauce), but it turned out pretty well anyway, although to me it tasted kind of bland, after all of the no-knead bread I’ve been making lately!\par

Tonight is the King’s Academy dinner theatre fund-raiser event. Contrary to all sound wisdom (possibly), we are bringing both of our boys with us. We are frantically hoping that they are little angels after 7:00 in the evening (unlike usual). Judah is upstairs trying to take a nap, even as we… well, even as\’c3\’82\’c2\~I write. Many of the people I know will be there, so again, a social event.\par

Tomorrow night we’ll be out to eat again, this time with Michael’s parents for an early celebration of his mother’s birthday. Again we’re crossing our finger’s for good behaviour on the part of the boys (this time three of them, counting Uncle Zane).\par
\par
Sunday we’ll go to church as usual, but then another Christian business acquaintance of Michael’s will be coming over with his wife and child in the afternoon. All around a community-oriented week!\par

This hasn’t happened for me. Most of the people my age have the smaller kids, and those with teens are usually older than me. But it will probably be different for you since more people in the church have children at a younger age. \par
I hope you had a good time at the King’s Acadamy dinner-I heard it was great.
