Vignettes from Daily Life

Yesterday we had dinner around 5:00 (which felt more like 4:00) and Judah went back to his room while I finished my food and did dishes. I went back and opened the dar starting to say “I hope you haven’t made a big mess in your room again…!!” But I stopped when I saw him lying fast asleep on his bed. I took a picture of him! :-)

On the way to Grandma Valerie’s on Sunday I was giving Judah a little impromptu education on the subject of Male/Female. I explained that he and Ezra and Daddy were boys, and that Mommy and Rusha (our cat) are girls. Judah laughed at my ludicrous statement and said, “Noooo, Mommy! Rusha’s a kitty!!”

Ezra’s starting to talk now a little bit more. This morning when Michael went in to get him our of bed he said “HiDaddy!” pretty distinctly. He also said “spaghetti” yesterday when Judah was exclaiming about it while I prepared spaghetti noodles for dinner. He says “kitty,” “banana,” “uh-oh,” “thankyou,” and when I asked him to say “please” this morning for a cookie he made a good effort – mostly just the “P” sound. When I work on letters with Judah he frequently will imitate the letter sounds after Judah.

We went to Target last Friday afternoon and after we had finished our errand we went to the two pet shops in that complex. The boys really enjoyed seeing all of the pets. Ezra was especially enthused by the puppies and the fish. He kept going back and forth looking at the puppies, but he finally went back to the first one, a fabulously expensive Husky, and sat down on the floor just to\’c3\’82\’c2\~watch him! :-) I was amazed at how much people would pay for dogs and birds and turtles… but I come from a family where we got all of our animals for free as I was growing up.

Last week was a very social week for me, which is fun, during tax season. On Tuesday my friend Mira came over with her two little kids. Then on Wednesday my brother and sister-in-law came over for dinner, then Friday I took my kids to Honeycomb Kids (a homeschool recitation group) which happened to be at Mira’s house, then we went to Mira’s house again on Saturday for her son’s birthday party! That week nearly made up for the 7 months it took us to finally set up a playdate!

Last night, after dinner (and after I woke Judah up from his impromptu nap), I took the boys for a walk. The walk was nearly over but we decided to try out a path down the hill that we’d never been on before. Halfway down I realized it was going to be a really long walk if we didn’t turn around.. but we kept going. When we got to the bottom of the hill we should’ve turned and headed home, but again I didn’t and just stopped at a couple of friend’s houses that were near where we bottomed out. They weren’t home. So we had to turn around and walk all the way back up to the house, and barely made it home before full-dark. I imagined the people driving by us wondering what that crazy woman was doing walking with in the twi-light with a three-year-old next to her and a (large) 17-month old on her back (Ezra couldn’t walk all the way). And I couldn’t help but agree with their diagnosis of my mental health. Ahh well. We made it home safely and next time I’ll be a little more careful to keep the walk short or bring a stroller!
