\’c3\’82\’c2\~Valentine’s Day falls very inconveniently into the middle of Tax Season. It’s during that time of year that I tend to just shrug off conventional activities – some other time perhaps. I always keep my romantic expectations very low, and am thus always pleasantly surprised by Michael’s effort to make some acknowledgment of the day, even though I know he’s terribly busy.\par

For this Valentine’s Day I made cookies for my husband and the boys, and, since, because of a combination of late hours (normal), and breakfast/early morning meetings (not so normal), Michael wasn’t going to be home during the boy’s waking hours for nearly 3 days, we went to see him! It actually was mostly chance (if you will) that Valentine’s Day was the day we went, since I’ve been planning on taking the boys to see “Daddy’s Work” for a while now, and this just ended up being the best day of the week for him and us to coordinate. We brought him home-made Valentines (one from me, one from Judah), a plate of cookies, and a collage frame that I’d taken all of last year’s pictures out of and replaced with new ones. Oh, and a box of those little sweetheart sugar candies that are so uniquely chalky and tasteless. He always used to get them for me until he realized that I had a tendency to put them in a cupboard for a few months and then… well.. you get the idea.\par

The boys were duly awed by the parking garage, multiple elevators, and view from the 8th floor, and delighted to see Daddy inhabiting this strange and (to Ezra) slightly scary world. We went downstairs and treated the boys to candy and french-fries in the food-court in the basement of his building. We sat by the fountain. What could possibly be more exciting than that to a 3 year old and 16 month old? The only sadness was Judah’s distress when Michael had to disappear up the escalator to go back to work.\par

Judah wants to go see him again tomorrow.\par

Michael came home with daffodils (my favorite), card, and gift tonight, and I am a very happy contented girl. Happy Valentine’s Day!
