After trying a variety of techniques for washing Judah’s hair, we have settled on the simple one of having Judah look straight up in the air while I pour water on his hair. Simple seeming, anyway – it usual takes repeated tellings and many reminders to get him to look way up and to keep looking up so that he doesn’t duck his head down right after I poured a cup of water on his head.\par

To help this process along I invented a game where I told him to look up at “the sky.”\’c3\’82\’c2\~ I ask him “do airplanes go in the sky?” and “do helicopters go in the sky?” and occasionally I sneak one in like “do elephants go in the sky?” Having him listening carefully for the trick question helps distract him from being afraid of getting water on his face.\par

Tonight, I asked him if “horses go in the sky?” He said, chuckling at my deceptiveness, “Noooo… horses go on the carpet!”
