We had a very happy Thanksgiving at my parents this last week! We were going to stay Wednesday through Sunday, but ended up leaving Saturday afternoon to avoid the bad weather predicted to start today (Sunday). I’m glad we did! My mom called this morning to tell me that it was snowing there and that [...] I’ve been trying to figure out how to deal with explaining my grandmother’s passing to Judah. He’s nearly 3 years old now, and he doesn’t seem inclined to merely forget Grandma inside a few weeks. Which is good, I think, but it leads to interesting misunderstandings and odd feedback. When she first passed away I [...] This year we’re doing the whole rotating holidays between grandparents thing – last year we spent Thanksgiving here and Christmas with my folks, and this year we’re spending Thanksgiving with my folks and Christmas with Michael’s folks here in town. We’re leaving tomorrow, and I should be getting ready for that trip right now, but…\par On Sunday I got the bug to decorate for Christmas. It was too early to decorate for Christmas, according to my normal reasoning, but I am trying to impliment Don Aslet’s “Do It Now” policy so I started. Mostly I got out things that were not too complicated – no lights, no fake pine-needles, no [...] Why haven’t I written much lately? A combination of slow times with nothing to write about and too-busy times with plenty to write about and no time to write it, I suppose. Probably a decreased interest right now, too, what with the holidays and everything.\par Yes, my grandmother, Mildred, passed away at 12:30 am Wednesday morning. My mom called in the morning as I was getting breakfast for the boys. I had been planning on going to see her that morning. She passed peacefully, and one of the employees was with her at the time.\par My grandmother is failing pretty rapidly right now. She’s living at a retirement facility in Molalla, OR. I go and see her every Wednesday, though I think I’m going to go and see her today (Monday) as well. It’s a very odd thing in a way to have a grandparent die of old age. I [...] Michael was on a business trip this last week, Wednesday through Friday. He was there with a coworker, John, with whom he carpooled. Apparently he told him that I was going to a “Jane Austen Party” on Saturday (actually a Pride and Prejudice party where we watched the entire A&E version of the beloved novel). [...] |
