Ironic..

It’s ironic how when you have lots of things to write about, you have no time to write! It’s when I have less to do that I find time to sit down and write some nonsense about daily life. The last few weeks have been hectic though – Michael’s been busy a lot of evenings, then he was out of town for training for a few days, so I went and stayed at my folks. Just before our planned out-of-town-ness, we discovered that a pipe had broken under our foundation, spraying gallons of expensive hot water into the ungrateful dirt, and we decided to have our house replumbed (yes, ouch.) Most of that was done while we were gone, fortunately, and when I got back I had 2 days to clean up the house (just the upstairs, the downstairs is still a disaster with all of the plumbing and re-sheetrocking going on), plan a menu, go grocery shopping and prepare the food for Ezra’s one-year birthday party on Saturday. I even had time to stop at the Dollar-Store at 8:30 on Friday night to buy Ezra some extremely cheap birthday presents, so that he would at least have something from his parents! The birthday party went very well, the food turned out, Ezra was cheerful and happy the whole time and enjoyed his presents, although Judah and Zane had to do most of the opening for him (he just didn’t get it). But after dinner I felt unpleasantly full, which turned into an upset stomach, which turned into an extremely upset stomach, which turned into.. well, you can imagine.\par

Yes. The flu. I got it, Ezra got it, Michael got it. Judah, who is normally the sickly one, didn’t. But that was Sunday (3rd Sunday in a row I’ve missed service at our church – I feel so out of touch). Since then we’ve been recovering, picking up the purple confetti that got scattered all over the floor\’c3\’82\’c2\~while Michael and I were in the “I don’t give a rip as long as they leave us alone” sick stage, and just trying to get back into “normal life.”\par

I should comment on several unlooked for blessings, however. Firstly, what a wonderful blessing that we didn’t get the flu until after we had hot water again! Secondly, what a wonderful blessing that our handyman friend who did the replumbing could fit us in right away! Thirdly, our extremely slow, laid-back Sunday was really rather relaxing and enjoyable, and provided lots of time for conversation, as one can only sleep so much, even when you’re sick.\par

Today Ezra had his 12 month well-baby check, and he is pretty well, indeed. I was somewhat surprised though, that his weight had dropped down close to the 50th percentile, which the doctor and I agreed was probably largely due to the water-loss resulting from the flu and to the fact that he’s started walking. He’s only 23 pounds (I thought he was closer to 25!). Judah is around 31 lbs (on the adult scale).\par

Both boys have been enjoying all of Ezra’s new birthday presents, especially the train set and the play cell-phone. Judah unfortunately got hold of a small screwdriver and managed to pop several of Ezra’s balloons before I retrieved from him.\’c3\’82\’c2\~ Sorry, Angela. :-( \par

Michael’s working long hours as October 15th approaches, and we are just going to try to take it slow for a few days here at home!\par

So that’s my update, and you can see why postings have been scarce around here!
