Because it is scheduled to be 102 degrees here (what they call unseasonably warm, a record in fact) and because we have no air-conditioning, and because we have two couples coming over for dinner tonight (whom we are going to wine and dine on card-tables in the basement store-room where it’s about 10 degrees cooler than upstairs) – anyway, because of all of these things I had to get an early start this morning, so this has easily been one of my most productive mornings in the last several months. I don’t think the kids enjoyed it much though. This morning I have:\par

- Cleaned up the kitchen from yesterday
- Made a Pavlova – a meringue shell, baked at 250 for a long time – an unfortunate cooking necessity for the aforementioned company
- Made strawberry freezer jam
- De-stemmed and cut up strawberries to fill two gallon freezer bags, which I froze
- Composed a marinade, skinned chicken thighs, marinated them
- Separated the rest of the chicken thighs, purchased last Thursday, into 3s and 4s for wrapping in foil and freezing
- Cleaned up kitchen again

Now I just have to pick up the basement, which is the area we try not to show visitors, vacuum it, and set up the card-tables and such downstairs as well as making the rest of the food. I would also like to take a shower before we have company, so perhaps I should go do that while the boys are taking their afternoon naps.\par

Soooo… that’s all for now!

Woo! Good for you, Elly! I hope the boys take a good long nap for you.
It’s really something when I see that it’s currently 98 here and 101 in Portland! Do what you can to stay cool and I hope it cools off tonight so you can have a few hours of relief.
