We had a busy weekend! On Friday morning, Michael climbed up on a step stool and tore out part of the bathroom ceiling from back when the shower leaked through the basement bathroom ceiling. While he was doing that, I was running around packing for our trip – to my parents for Ben and Emeth’s wedding reception on May 5th.\par

The reception went very well! My mom ran around working very hard, and bringing order out of chaos, ultimately feeding around 100 people with the help of her mother-in-law, Phyllis, who was an angel in disguise. The food had an Asian theme, appropriately, and was well received and very good! I had a good time, although, being an introvert, I always feel uncomfortable at parties – even parties where the majority of the people are old friends!\par

On Saturday we went to my little sister’s soccer Jamboree – well, we only went to one of the 4 games that she played, actually, and it was one of the two that they lost – but they finished second at the Jamboree, so overall they did pretty well that season! Other than that we all sat around and visited, or napped, and ate pretty much all of the time.\par

After attending the church I grew up in, we drove home. Both car trips went much better than any previous car trips with Ezra, praise God! Judah takes it upon himself to try to entertain him in the back, which helps tremendously!\par

The boys got colds in the last couple of weeks and they’re both still sick – we can’t seem to shake illness recently – it seems like Judah’s been sick at least every other week! Ezra is healthier, but still I took him into the doctor’s on Monday because he woke up wheezing. He was fine, of course – the advice nurses always say “well, we should probably bring him in and have a listen,” and “better safe than sorry.” Which is true, but they’re not the ones who have to get two little kids into car-seats, find a place to park in a crowded parking garage, get two little kids into the facility, keep both of them happy and quiet in the office itself, then keep a toddler from destroying thousands of dollars of equipment in the tiny waiting room – only to be told that their child isn’t really sick and “will get better no matter what we do!” Not that I wanted him to be sick… and it’s true that it’s better to be safe than sorry… but it is kind of irritating to go to all that trouble just so they can hold the stethescope to his ribs and say he’s just fine. But the doctor did talk to me a little about Judah’s eczema while I was there and even prescribed him a slightly stronger ointment than the over the counter cortizone cream, so I guess it wasn’t a wasted trip!\par

Ezra has learned to roll from back to front! Yes, I know, terribly exciting. But I thought was! Mostly, because once he can roll back to front, I don’t mind putting him to sleep on his tummy – because he could’ve rolled that way himself, and the powers that be always say that if they roll onto their tummy after you put them in bed, that you don’t really need to worry about them. Convoluted logic, I know, but I feel less guilty that way. Plus, it’s one more step toward mobility of a sort – at least now he can roll across the floor, even if he still doesn’t crawl!\par
\par
One more note – Emeth is feeling very poorly – she hasn’t really recovered from the Epstein-Barr virus for which she was hospitalized right before the wedding, plus she’s terribly nauseous and sleepy from early pregnancy. Ben is home sick today because he’s sick too, running fevers, coughing and hacking, and being just generally miserably sick – so they can use all of the prayers they can get! Pray for their health and the health of the baby – my niece or nephew!!

After the myriad of things I see on a daily basis at work, it makes me thankful for some parents’ sakes that they did decide to be ‘better safe than sorry’ and they didn’t put off going to the doctor for what they thought was ‘just the sniffles’. Some random things are caught by trips to the doctor for ongoing sniffles, and sometimes things end up being more serious than we originally thought they were going to be. I’m glad the boys are ok! \par
I’ll be at church this Sunday and next… can’t wait to see you all! \par

… PS: You can get a stethoscope, too and learn what you’re listening for… it’s actually quite easy.
Thanks for the perspective, Bethany.
I do have a stethoscope – my grandmother got one when I was pregnant with Judah so that we could try to hear his heartbeat in utero. No luck there, but I still have it!
