A Marriage

Well, theoretically my brother Ben got married last night around 9:00 p.m. (April 1 in Tokyo). I haven’t heard anything yet, so I’m assuming that the wedding went off as planned. I half-way expect somebody to call and tell me it didn’t happen as an April Fools Joke. For those of you who should perhaps be responsible for telling me how it went… I’m waiting!!\par

Also, on an unrelated track, we are having more success this morning with the potty training endeavor. Judah has even gone to the potty without any prompting once! I’m hoping that this continues! But I’m nervous as a cat about him wetting his pants while sitting on some upholstery or carpeting until he has a better record! I have to say, it is pretty funny to see him sitting on the potty reading a book!\par

Another unrelated note – My kids are both almost completely better from their colds, but I’m still blowing my nose and now I’m getting sinus headaches. Does anybody have suggestions for shaking a potential sinus infection other than getting antibiotics?

One thing you could try is saline spray- that helps sometimes. It’s usually pretty cheap ($1-2), and is all natural so no medicine feeling. It helps keep your nose “clean” and wet, and helps prevent the backup that can cause infection.

Also, congrats to you brother for his new marrige, and to your son for becoming a big boy!

  • Elly, the wedding was beautiful! There were a number of non traditional moments that made it even more special. Instead of flower girls, about 20 of Emeth’s students each carried down a small bouquet that they handed her.\par

Her father, Pastor Ralph Smith, conducted the wedding which was mostly in Japanese. We did sing a Psalm 15 bilingually – So the English and Japanese mixed during the song. Her father then gave a very moving message which he alternated back and forth from Japanese to English! I lose my train of thought in just English!\par

Afterwards there were photos. And Photos. And Photos. I put a photo up in flickr (link below) that shows everyone at the wedding taking pictures of the wedding party with their cell phones and cameras. It was almost like the paparazzi were there.\par

Then at the reception Pastor Smith, your dad, Ben, and Emeth each gave a short talk. The deserts were to die for!\par

I did jokingly apologize to your parents. I did not make it to your wedding in Portland because it was too far away but I can make it to Ben’s in Tokyo. :) \par

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the news and the pictures!! I DO think it is quite hilarious that the very first news I heard of my little brother’s wedding was a comment on my blog from my college room-mate’s father!!!! I believe I will make a point of beating that over my parent’s heads. And I can understand your willingness to go to Tokyo for Ben’s wedding rather than Portland for mine… any day you could hop in your car and be here in 4 hours!

Not that my family doesn’t have other things on their mind, I’m sure! :-)

It is true. I am married. I have joined the ranks of ring-wearing responsible-looking men world-wide. Blessings!

    I bet you’re feeling just a little left out. :( I know I would! \par

I have no great wisdom to share about your sinus infection. Generally, I tough it out with sinus headache tablets. I don’t like to take antibiotics if I can help it, but will if necessary.

  • Several months ago I took all boys and myself into urgent care ’cause the boys had ear infections and I thought I might be getting a sinus infection and I didn’t want herbs. :) It wasn’t a sinus infection yet and the doctor said to use nasal spray during the day and a cold or allergy medicine with an antihistimine before bed to keep the passages clear…but you have to be careful which antihistimines you can take when you’re nursing or you’ll dry up more than your nose! :) I used it up, though, apparently, because I can’t find it to tell you what it was….Sorry! I hope it’s clearing up on its own, anyway.
