Last night I watched Revenge of the Sith on DVD while Michael was out at a meeting. I’m working on a Christmas present for a family member so I don’t feel too bad sitting and watching a movie while I do it.
This is my second time seeing it – the first time I saw it at the theatre with my brother Sam and my sister KD. It was definitely the best of the prequels, and I almost liked it better the second time around. I think maybe on the small screen the lines that came across kind of flat weren’t quite so embarrassing.

Just a few comments on the movie – 1) It was very clean – it’s nice to see a movie made for adults (pretty much) where you don’t have to fast-forward any scenes and there’s absolutely no bad language. 2) Padme’s pregnancy proceeded at a breathtaking speed. Perhaps the screenwriters intended to\’c3\’82\’c2\~indicate the amount of time spent in space-travel, or perhaps they just intended for everybody to suspend their disbelief just a little bit more. It seems to me like the movie took place over 2 months, max, but I’d guess that Padme wasn’t more than 4 months pregnant at the beginning of the movie – and those weren’t premature babies (or newborns either, for that matter). Oh well. 3) It seems to me that an order, however noble, that expects virile young men to romp around the galaxy saving the lives of beautiful damsels and NOT to end up fathering children with said damsels (and in this case the couple was actually married which is unusual in movies these days) deserves what’s coming to it – for criminal stupidity.\’c3\’82\’c2\~4) Again regarding the Jedi Order – what sort of nonsense is this – “oh, you’re worried about premonition\’c3\’82\’c2\~of someone close to you dying\’c3\’82\’c2\~- don’t let it bother you, we all die sometime,”(very rough paraphrase)\’c3\’82\’c2\~and “only the Sith deal in absolutes.” They had it coming. 5) It seems to me that becoming a mother has dramatically shifted my emotional response to movies – rather than being emotionally drawn to the doomed romance, the moments that most affected me were the ones that had to do with children. The slaughter of the younglings makes me sick just thinking about it, and the dispersal of the motherless twins made me almost cry.
6) The music is very good – especially toward the end.\par

Well, those are some of my thoughts about the movie. Having been a life-long Star Wars fan, even the mediocre quality of the lines is not enough to keep me from liking the pre-quels – for old-times sake, if nothing else. And as I said, the third one was really the best.\par

My toddler is sick today, so we cancelled our weekly trip out to GG’s. We’ll just be laying low all day – most likely the boys will sleep a lot and we’ll watch TV, read books, and maybe even drink hot chocolate on this dreary Oregon spring day. Even sickness can be a blessing sometimes.
