Today’s Enterprise

Normally my days are split into what seems like a hundred different activities. So it seems rather odd to me to look back on my day and realize that it was almost entirely consumed by one major project: potty training. I’m not writing this to crow about my success – since I haven’t succeeded yet. In [...]

\’c3\’82\’c2\~My path toward my home-management system is rather like a spiritual journey. I read books, I make changes, I talk to people, I make changes, I get [...]

I have a praise

At our prayer meetings, people frequently report an answer to a previous prayer with the phrase “I have a praise.” So I would like to relate a recent answer to a prayer of mine. The incident was.. well, incidental, the eternal consequences were minor, but boy, was the prayer fervent!\par

Body, but not in Mind

\’c3\’82\’c2\~The other day I put Judah on a blanket on the kitchen floor and told him to stay on the blanket and play with toys quietly while I tried to work in the kitchen. He hates this, but he has mostly learned to submit to the rule. He found a loophole though, because when I looked [...]

Hills… and Valleys

Yesterday was a bit of a valley. That is, in the sense that it was a rather low point in the week. At least, I sure hope it was the low point of the week and that the rest of it will be much better!\’c3\’82\’c2\~Judah caught a cold early last week and\’c3\’82\’c2\~Ezra and I came down with it on Saturday. Sunday we went\’c3\’82\’c2\~to church, though we probably shouldn’t have. But we started out Monday fairly well, considering our health. The kitchen was relatively clean and the schedule unhurried – it promised to be another regular Monday.\par
\par
But in the morning we had some service people come and check out the\’c3\’82\’c2\~hole in our bathroom ceiling to see if it\’c3\’82\’c2\~needed to be dried out or anything. They said that it was dry but that there was mold, elaborated on the dangers of said substance, and quoted us $2000 to removed the contaminated sheetrock\’c3\’82\’c2\~and eliminate any other lurking mold spores. I\’c3\’82\’c2\~guess that’s what they were going to do anyway. Which would leave us with an even bigger hole in our ceiling Continue reading Hills… and Valleys

Movie Review – Revenge of the Sith

Last night I watched Revenge of the Sith on DVD while Michael was out at a meeting. I’m working on a Christmas present for a family member so I don’t feel too bad sitting and watching a movie while I do it. :-) This is my second time seeing it – the first time I saw it at the theatre with my brother Sam and my sister KD. It was definitely the best of the prequels, and I almost liked it better the second time around. I think maybe on the small screen the lines that came across kind of flat weren’t quite so embarrassing. :-) \par
\par
Just a few comments on the movie – 1) It was very clean – it’s nice to see a movie made for adults (pretty much) where you don’t have to fast-forward any scenes and there’s absolutely no bad language. 2) Padme’s pregnancy proceeded at a breathtaking speed. Perhaps the screenwriters intended Continue reading Movie Review – Revenge of the Sith

Busy Boy

Since Judah woke up extra early this morning at 6:00, he has knocked over a vase of flowers (and water of course), scattered and thrown a small bowl of cereal all over the kitchen, mashed crackers onto the underside of the table mats (folded in half to let the underside dry after the previous water spill), [...]

My Evening Routine?

Mystie suggested a game of tag oriented toward home management, the goal\’c3\’82\’c2\~being to share ideas or at least get a feel for how others manage their homes. \’c3\’82\’c2\~Her first question was:\par

Geste at Home #1:\par

What is your evening routine in theory? What is your evening routine in practice?

\par

I would make a link that carried you directly to the post wherein this was asked… but I don’t know how. Sorry.

\par

In theory I would start making dinner in tidy kitchen which I had been maintaining all day. As I cooked, I would clean up as I went along, so that by the time dinner was served, the only dishes remaining would be the dishes on the table and the serving/final cooking dishes. Then, after dinner, served promptly on time, of course\’c3\’82\’c2\~(when Michael gets home), we Continue reading My Evening Routine?

My Kitchen Window

I don’t think I spend more time looking at (or through) anything as much as I do through my kitchen window. It’s where I wash my hands, peel carrots, do dishes, etc. I spend (it seems like) enormous amounts of time in the kitchen and probably look through the window hundreds of times a day. Nothing [...]

Why the Waste?

The instructions on the box of rice cereal I bought for Ezra clearly state that one should discard the “unused portion” of the bowl when finished with a meal. Does anybody know what possible harm could come from wrapping some plastic wrap over the bowl and putting it into the refrigerator until the next meal? I’m [...]

Judah wants to help

I put Ezra in the exersaucer yesterday and went down the hall to tend to something. When I returned, Judah started guiltily and I realized that he had gotten the bowl of rice cereal\’c3\’82\’c2\~off of the table and was busily spooning it into (or mostly into) Ezra’s mouth. Ezra had cereal all over his face and [...]

Questions?

For those more savvy than I..\par

How do you write those nice hyperlinks that only have a name rather than those messy pasted in urls I’ve been using? I suspect that I knew how once, but apparently I’ve forgotten.\par

No Leak – Big Hole!

For those who are interested…\par
\par
$500 dollars and a hole in the basement ceiling later, our bathtub is no longer leaking through the basement bathroom ceiling. Plus, the bath faucet works so we don’t have to fill the tub with the shower-head anymore – this is great! Now we just have to hire somebody to patch the [...]

Ahh, plumbing.

I heard dripping today as I passed the top of the stairs. So I put the baby down under a toy and ran downstairs to find the source of the noise. Oh, joy, oh, bliss, there was water dripping rapidly out of the ceiling in the basement bathroom. The ceiling was flat except for a funnel [...]

A day in Olympia

Yesterday we made a day-trip to my friend Meghan’s house in Olympia. We had a good time, although with 5 kids (4 boys and one girl) between the two of us, all under 4, it was a little chaotic and not quite so easy to visit as it was 5 years ago when we were getting [...]

Why the University of Idaho?

Mystie suggested that I blog about the way I ended up at U of I. That sounds like a good idea to me, since that’s a story I generally enjoy telling! It goes like this.\par
