The Blessedness of Routine

A couple of years ago at Family Camp Chris Schlect spoke on the Blessedness of Routine. At the time he suggested finding the fun and joy in routine and seeing it as a blessing from God. One example: looking at the laundry and seeing how it looked like an elephant. OK. That was pretty corny, and I must admit I was not overly confident that one could really enjoy the laundry – especially NOT by trying to find shapes in piles of it. I’m still not, but after being out of town twice in February and enjoying a particularly whirlwind visit to my Mom’s last week, I am back into my young-mother-with-two-small-children routine, which includes doing laundry on Monday. And it is such a blessing to be back to normal!!! Praise God for laundry!

Elly, you asked about what I do while I stitch. Usually I have the tv on. Lately the Olympics have had me spoiled with lots of stitching time, but my attention to stitching was sporadic. :D Sometimes dh brings home books on cds, or I find something good on the internet (I have a laptop that goes with me around the house).

  • Yes, laundry is my bane. Yesterday I did a load of whites and two loads of cold (and yes, I did do laundry last week!) and even got them all put away; yet, by the end of the day, where did the boys’ clothes, my shirt, and my husband’s whites go? Into the laundry hamper. Sigh. But the routine is certainly a blessing, for it tells me that even though the hamper is not empty, I do not need to worry about it again until Monday! :)
